Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons is a beginning reading program in which children easily move step by step with phonics and learn the skills necessary to blend the sounds into words. Some families begin this program with children young as 3-5 years.
Teach Your Child to Read contains 100 twenty minute lessons that are scripted for parents, grandparents or tutors so that the process of teaching reading to children can be fun, interesting and successful. After they complete the 100 lessons children should be able to read on a second grade level.
The program is written to the parent or tutor who models blending of phonemes orally before showing the written symbols. Then, the blending is modelled by the teacher, said with the student and then said on their own. It is an easy way to show how words are blended as whole units rather than as separate letters which so often happens in other phonic instruction.
Following this are the use of marks under letters to help distinguish the sounds. The child is taught to look at the shapes of the symbols/letters and also taught to touch under the sounds and move with their finger from left to right and say the word/sound fast to blend the sounds.
The purpose of the program is to teach accurate decoding of words based on information provided by the print, rather than relying on contextual cues of a story to prompt a word's pronunciation.
