Read Alouds - Love You Forever

Love You Forever by Robert Munsch was a book that I started out reading to our son on the day that we brought him home from the hospital. Even though our son is soon to turn 12, he still has this book on his shelf. We still read it together every now and again. He says that he can't get rid of it because it is a “Mommy and Son special book to share and I love it and you because you shared it with me!”
The story is one of as the little boy grows into a man that it covers and shows well the stages of life. It is a story that explains well how a parent's love is enduring, no matter what is said or done over the years, and how that love is hopefully passed on from one generation to another. There are many lessons that can be learned from this story as well as many touching moments. We have often shared a tear or two by reading it together, it is so powerful!
There is often throughout the day that I catch myself, just as the mother in the story did, singing my own version of “I will love you forever, I will like you for always, As long as I am living, My baby you will be.” My son has long since picked up on this and we often sing the verse together. Oh, the memories that I have of watching my son grow and in reading and learning from this book together!
