Welcome to the Blue Mountains Teen Homeschool group!
If you are a home-ed teen or family and live in the Greater Blue Mountains area then this support group may be just what you're looking for.
The aim of the BM Teen Homeschool Group is to create a community for teenagers homeschooling in the Blue Mountains and their families. We endeavour to provide members with the benefits that come from contact with peers who can share in their homeschooling journey and the opportunity to work towards promoting a more favourable climate for home education in the wider community.
We liaise with facilitators to provide classes and workshops specially designed for the interests and abilities of teenagers and work to create a social circle that enhances the homeschool experience for everyone. Teen members can also take advantage of our working relationship with Blue Mountains City Council and other local businesses to provide work experiences.
Past and present events organised by the group include CSIRO workshops, CPR training, Literature through Drama, art and textile workshops, regular meetings of the Book Club and Creative Writing groups and Japanese Language classes. Group members participate in a Community Reading Program run through Hazelbrook Primary School and recently established a childminding service for upper mountains homeschool families. BM Teen Homeschool Group is also involved in the planning and implementation of an Open Day Market during national Home Education Week.
Group outings have included trips by the Anime Club to the Japan Foundation, to cinemas for Movie of the Month as well as sailing on Penrith Lakes. Future plans include excursions to the theatre, the Bathurst gold fields, the Big Dig Archaeological Education Centre in The Rocks and sessions of archery, orienteering and chocolate making.
